ABSTRACT

Comparison of colchicine-induced autotetraploids of seven diverse cultivars of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) with theii :orresponding diploids for various biochemical traits was done. Autotetraploids showed increased moisture content, total jrotein, ash content and seed weight but reduced sugar and starch content. Positive correlation among these traits was )bserved at both the ploidy levels with the exception of starch content and seed weight, which were negatively correlated vith other traits. A non-significant positive correlation existed between seed weight and starch content.

Key words: Autotetraploids, biochemical, diploids, garden pea, Pisum sativum
