THE EFFECT OF ALGAL CULTURE WATER ON GROWTH AND SURVIVAL OF PENAEUS INDICUS (MILNE-EDWARDS) LARVAE FED ON MICROENCAPSULATED DIET

ABSTRACT

Study on the effects of algal culture water in Penaeus indicus larval culture was carried out using culture water isolated from Telraselmis chuii and Skeletonema costatum culture medium. Treatments with microencapsulated diet with the inclusion of 3mm-filtered algal culture water into the culture medium significantly improved larval survivals comparable to the conventional live algae diets (p>0.05). It was concluded that algal culture water acts as a conditioning factor promotes better larval performances. Its addition provides a new approach in hatchery culture techniques in the absent of live algae diets.


ABSTRAK

Kajian kesan penggunaan air dari kultur alga Tetraselmis chuii dan Skeletonema costatum ke atas kemandirian dan nbesaran larva Penaeus indicus telah dijalankan. Perlakuan menggunakan diet mikrokapsul dengan tambahan air dari dua-dua kultur agar tersebut yang dituras hingga 3 mm telah berjaya meningkatkan kemandirian larva selaras dengan -tur menggunakan diet semulajadi (P > 0.05). Ini dapat disimpulkan bahawa air kultur agar bertindak mengubahsuai rsekitaran dalaman untuk menggalakkan pertumbuhan larva. Kaedah ini boleh digunakan sebagai teknik baru dalam pengkulturan larva tanpa bergantung kepada diet semulajadinya.
