ABSTRACT

Broiler chicks were fed either mashed (MF) or pelleted (PF) ration commencing from day 21. Pelleting increased tboc consumption and weight gain throughout the experimental period. Feeding regimen had no significant effect on watei consumption (except from days 21 to 27), feed conversion ratios and mortality rate. Chicks fed pelleted ration were less active at 0900 hr and spent less time eating (at 0900 hr and 1400 hr) than their mash fed counterparts. While relative gizzard weight was not affected by feeding regimen, PF birds had higher abdominal fat deposition than those fed MF. Financial analysis showed a higher net profit for MF birds.
