ABSTRACT
Experiments were conducted to evaluate the bacterial wilt resistance of six tomato parental lines (varieties) and the inheritance on three selected crosses. Greenhouse inoculation studies showed significant differences (P = 0.01) among genotypes, in their degree of susceptibility to bacterial wilt, as indicated by their disease indices. For the three crosses studied, resistance to bacterial wilt showed high heterosis over mid parental value and no heterosis over better parental value. Heritability estimates of disease index were generally high for all three crosses. This indicated that the additive genes were more important than non-additive genes. Therefore, in breeding programmes, selection for disease resistant plants (genotypes] after each generation of selfing is recommended.
