ABSTRACT

Virgin and mated antennectomized females of Callosobruchus maculatus Fabricius laid less eggs compared to that ol control (normal females). The onset of egg laying was also delayed in the case of virgin females. Number of eggs laid b> this bruchid species increased with an increase in the number of host seeds provided during oviposition in all the foui Vigna species (V. radiata, V. iniingo, V. sublobata and V. bourneae) tested.

Key words: Antennectomy, Callosobruchus maculatus, egg output, seed density, Vigna spp., virginity
