ABSTRACT

Two propanil-resistant biotypes of Leptochloa chinensis infesting rice fields of Kelantan, Malaysia (including the fields of the National Planter’s Organization in Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang) were identified in a glasshouse study. Dose-response tests conducted using leaf discs revealed that L. chinensis from rice fields of Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang have developed resistance to propanil. Based on visual assessment, leaf disc tests indicate that the resistant biotypes are 2-fold more resistant than their respective susceptible biotypes.

Key words: Propanil, herbicide, Leptochloa chinensis, rice
